1990 began with St Blazey still unbeaten in the league. They faced the awkward trip to Roach in the Senior cup. After taking a 15th minute lead through Hake, Roche gave their visitors a torrid time, and should have been further ahead. Receiving a roasting at half time there was a big improvement in the second half, but it took a controversial penalty four minutes from time to secure a replay stroked in by Kenealy. St Blazey pulverized their East Cornwall opponents in the replay 9v0. Roche goal keeper Ellis was carried off  by the Air Ambulance after 28 minutes, but had already conceded twice as the home team found their best form for weeks.

Another set back arrived as Tony Kenealy also joined the professional ranks after he accepted an offer to join Napier City Rovers in New Zealand.
