1960 began with a big Senior cup win 8v0 against Looe in early January. Rowden and Sample hitting hat tricks and Dick Hunt heading two superb goals.

The clubs first defeat in 15 games came at Launceston.

The Guardian reported:

‘SWL leaders and hot favorites for the league and cup double, crashed to a 5v2 defeat at Launceston. And so ended their post war run of 14 games without defeat. It was on September 26th that they were last defeated by Exeter City’

Fanfare added ‘The door that seemed to have slammed tight by St Blazey was opened to let in a chink of light as the result of the Green and Blacks shock defeat at Launceston. Now Truro City, Newquay and Bodmin are breathing down the necks of the Blaise Park boys and anymore slip ups in the championship race could put the whole affair right back in the melting pot.

The following week came a surprise defeat at Newton Abbot who secured their first win of the season.

At this time there were rumours of a break up of the South Western League.
