St Blazey 4v4 Tavistock Res. Att, 67 Away 8est

Another warm sunny evening at Blaise Park for the pre season friendly between St Blazey and visitors Tavistock reserves. Last time out, St Blazey lost 2v3 to Peterborough U18s. Tonights fixture would be a good test with a few first team players also turning out for Tavistock. St Blazey had several players away on holiday so a reduced squad for tonight’s fixture.

St Blazey’s starting line up was as follows.

Tavistock started the match very well, creating several early chances as St Blazey began the match poorly. One through ball split the St Blazey defence and the Tavistock striker wriggled free, and his effort on goal was well saved by Brodie Cole in goal, rushing out to the edge of the penalty area to block the shot. Minutes later a speculative shot crashed off the cross bar with Cole only able to watch but the ball bounced down and was hooked clear. Alexander making his debut for St Blazey received the ball out on the right but his shot was dragged wide across goal. Tavistock opened the scoring soon after. A corner was swung in at the near post and flicked on leaving the ball to be volleyed home low giving Cole no chance. St Blazey were soon caught again on the break. A good ball down the left was passed inside and then passed calmly into the bottom corner. Another good finish. St Blazey did manage to have more possession from then on, and pulled a goal back just before half time. A ball out to Alexander was chipped over the defender and he fired home low into the bottom right hand corner to give St Blazey a lift going into the break.

Tavistock restored their two goal advantage just four minutes into the second half. Within three minutes St Blazey were back in it again as Rhys Walton scored. Amazingly Tavistock had restored their two goal advantage again just five minutes later, but back came St Blazey again as they made it 3v4 and another goal from Rhys Walton. Four goals in a crazy 15 minute spell. St Blazey showed their battling qualities and their fitness training was needed to push them to the end and their reward was a 90th minute equaliser from Steve Rodgers to make the score 4v4.
