St Blazey 3v0 Penzance Att 105 (15 away est)
St Blazey and Penzance both went into this midweek fixture locked on 12 points for the season so far. With St Blazey having the better goal difference, they knew a win would take them up to 6th in the table with tonight’s game being the only league fixture being played. Conditions looked perfect with the pitch looking well cut and the good weather, a seasons best home crowd so far of 105 came to see this S.W.P L west match. The new look program was on sale for the first time which you can see from the pictures below.
Penzance started the match brightly and had the majority of the ball. Few chances were created in the opening 15 minutes. The first real chance fell to Penzance when a St Blazey throw in was taken, the ball was won and two passes later Penzance were through on goal but couldn’t beat Chapman in goal for St Blazey, as the shot flew just wide of the far post. After that, the game opened up a bit and St Blazey started to threaten with Perryman running at the Penzance defence only for his shot to be well blocked and new signing Shea Saunders unable to cross when a good run down the left came to nothing. It was end to end, another Penzance shot was pushed away by Chapman while another Perryman shot was blocked and trickled back to the Penzance goalkeeper. St Blazey almost opened the scoring when a corner was headed wide from a couple yards out. St Blazey didn’t have to wait long though, with half time approaching, a free kick outside the box was floated in to Joe Stone who went up for the header and it was Stone who reacted the quickest to the loose ball and smashed the ball into the back of the net.
Half Time. St Blazey 1v0 Penzance.
As the misty drizzle started to fall at the beginning of the second half, Penzance came out and quickly set about getting an equaliser and almost did when a few passes left room for a shot outside the box, which clipped the top of the bar. Penzance had another effort scrambled away before St Blazey hit Penzance on the counter attack with the ball out wide to Johnson who ran at the Penzance defence and crossed for Perryman who’s header was saved. St Blazey then capitalised on a poor goal kick in the 66th minute when the Penzance keeper miss kicked the ball straight to Saunders who controlled it, took a couple touches and coolly lobbed the ball over the goal keeper to give St Blazey some breathing space. Penzance were never out of the game and how they never scored no one nos with another goal mouth scramble after they had hit the woodwork again and ball finally hacked clear. Chapman in goal had to be at his best to tip a header over the bar to keep his clean sheet before St Blazey broke away again. Paddy West picking the ball up in midfield, finding Perryman down the right who’s perfect cross was headed back across goal by Johnson to make it 3v0 in the 74th minute. As they rain came down the last 15 minutes were scrappy and St Blazey saw they game out to win their 5th match in a row and climb to 6th in the table. A big win, against a good side who could be up around the top end of the table come the end of the season.
Man of the match: Ryan Howe, Brilliant overall performance.
