St Austell 2v2 St Blazey Att, 32 (6 from St Blazey)
St Blazey manager gave a debut to 7 players as St Blazey got their pre season friendlies underway. James Baker returned to the back four for St Blazey after his move from Wadebridge. Toby Chapman was out injured with a broken finger.
St Austell had the best of the opening chances and should have been one up when a ball over the top was lobbed over the advancing keeper but also the cross bar. St Blazey could have opened the scoring mid way through the first half when a good move saw Oxley through but with the square ball on, he shot and Chapman saved well. St Blazey went in front on 36 minutes when a good passing move from the back sent Johnson through on the right and his cross beat the advancing Chapman in goal and the ball looped into the far corner. St Austell hit the post before half time as St Blazey held on to lead at the break.
Half time, St Austell 0v1 St Blazey
With several substitutions at half time, St Austell came out and turned the game on it head. Goldworthy slammed the ball home in the 47th minute and two minutes later Eddy’s low shot made it 2v1. St Blazey got themselves back in the game and Oxley had a chance to lob Chapman but he saved his attempt. St Austell hit the cross bar when a shot from the right chipped the goalkeeper but the cross bar came to St Blazey’s rescue. Oxley always looked the most likely to score for St Blazey and a long ball into him was controlled and taken around Chapman but Whatts cleared off the line. Oxley then had a ball into feet which he controlled well past the defender but his shot went into the side netting. Oxley finally got his reward when the ball was cleared by St Austell and Howe volleyed the ball back. With Oxley stood off side, the St Austell defender miss controlled it and ball ran through to Oxley who chipped the ball over Chapman to make it 2v2 in the 79th minute.
A good work out for both sides who will both have aspirations to win their respective leagues this season.
